Great Japanese restaurant. Came here with 3 friends and we shared some appetizers and ordered our own rolls. We ordered the cod and tataki duck to share - they're not big but both were delicious. Only thing is the sides of cod are a bit burnt but overall of fish is super tender and melts in your mouth. The duck is kind of medium rare, flavored with soy sauce on the bottom and has a side of salad. We were originally going to have hamachi Kama but it ran out!
Will be back! -

Food is pretty great value for Manhattan. Nice to find home-cooked style food here.
Sushi connoisseurs will have a gripe with the rice.
Beer lovers will long for a draft beer too. -

Well, this was a big WHOMP WHOMP as a lot of the reviews (which were the reason we came) were stellar, but that was not our experience.
Yes, we were sat quickly.
No, the waiter did not come for a good while...long enough to notice the curious cockroach that crawled down the wall we were sat next to. My wife killed it with a napkin and gave it to the waiter. But that was our induction. Not a good start.
There were a couple good dishes but overall I've had way better. With so many options in this wonderful city, this is not a place we will be returning to. -

Takahachi is a great sushi place in the East Village area! I came here with my boyfriend (after we were in the area and craving sushi) and I found this place on Yelp because of all the great reviews. I'm so glad we came! We came on a weeknight and it was definitely busy, but luckily we were able to be seated right away (we didn't have a reservation). For appetizers, we split the Yellowtail Hamachi (which if you've never had and you like fish, I would DEFINITELY recommend). The portion size was really generous and cooked perfectly. We split the sushi/sashimi special (for two people) and were really full. I believe we even had leftovers to take home because we were so stuffed. I definitely want to come back - this place was amazing!

Cute spot for sushi in the east village. The prices were on the more expensive side, but fair. However the portion size was on the smaller size and some of the fish didn't taste very fresh. Overall I thought the sushi was good, but I would come here for the atmosphere more than anything.
